Chanderi sarees (World) is the registered Geographical Indications by the Registrar of Geographical Indications, Chennai under Geographical Indication of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act 1999 through Geographical Indication No. 7; Certificate No. 4 dated 2^nd April 2004.

Any fabric produced outside the geographical boundary of the place chanderi can not be termed as chanderi. Any violation to this is a punishable offence under law.
